Neuro-rTMS is a private neurological practice located in Athens, Greece led by Dr. Maria Ioanna Stefanou, MD, MSc, PhD. Dr. Stefanou is a board-certified neurologist who practices adult neurology with special interest in non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques. She received her medical degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience from King's College London and a PhD degree from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. She completed her neurology residency at the University Hospital of Tübingen, Germany.
The initial consultation sets the cornerstone for the neurological differential diagnosis. It comprises a thorough and in-depth review of the patient's symptoms, medical history and past treatments, along with a detailed physical/neurological exam, including cognitive status assessment. It is indispensable towards devising the diagnostic work-up and a personalised treatment plan.

The neurological diagnostic work-up typically includes laboratory tests, neuroimaging and electrophysiological studies, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and less frequently genetic tests or nerve/muscle biopsy studies. A critical interpretation of the diagnostic results is decisive for the clinical decision-making and the early-identification of an underlying neurological disorder.

"Precision medicine" refers to tailored disease-prevention and treatment approaches that take into account differences in people's genetics, environments, and lifestyles. Recently, there have been tremendous advances in the treatment of many neurological disorders. Thereby, the goal of neurological precision medicine is to target the right treatments to the right patients at the right time.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain and is used both as diagnostic tool and treatment modality for a wide variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Diagnostically, single-pulse TMS is used to measure activity and function of specific brain circuits in humans, including assessment of the function and integrity of the human motor system. With respect to therapy, repetitive TMS (rTMS) is proven to be a safe and highly efficacious treatment of neurological and psychiatric diseases, including depression, post-stroke movement disorders, limb spasticity, neuropathic pain, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
